time for a new leaf

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Barrie, 2001.01.01

Well, the new year began, as so many have, with a touch of a hangover. Readily fixed with the usual doses of humility. It was -24oC with the windchill today, and 24oC in Sydney. But driving through the cold lifeless farms and forests of Huronia, it was all worth it (e.g. the Sun was shining).

We got to Sara's aunt's place for New Year's dinner (which was stunning, I think she'd made the finest roast beef I'd had in years), and were the first to arrive. Sara said 'Mark this date:01/01/01 I'm turning a new leaf! No more being the last to arrive.'

Charitably, I said, 'Sure.'

rand()m quote

It may be that when we no longer know what to do we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings.

—Wendell Berry
