movie review - Lake Placid

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Sydney, 2000.02.15

Another in the endless stream of who-will-survive-the-encounter-with-a-deadly-force-of-nature flicks, this one is about a buncha cops, game wardens, scientists and a crocophile who get together to fuck around with a giant crocodile that's living in a small New England lake. It's amusing and full of humour-filled chills and spills. I like both Platt and Pullman, though I never know what drives the latter to choose the movies he does. Both are aptly cast in this essentially silly affair, and I was happy.

Recommended.

rand()m quote

Immature poets imitate mature poets steal bad poets deface what they take and good poets make it into something better or at least something different. The good poet welds his theft into a whole of feeling which is unique utterly different than that from which it is torn the bad poet throws it into something which has no cohesion. A good poet will usually borrow from authors remote in time or alien in language or diverse in interest.

—T.S. Eliot
